The End – Poultry Processing Season has ended for 2016
It happens every year. It makes us happy.
The last day of poultry processing.

Rachel, Jim, and Dorothy take a break between groups of birds to express their joy.
This year we went out with gusto. For starters, we had a full day of about 175 birds. For seconds, that count included old layer hens, roosters, extra large broiler chickens (all of whom are challenging on a good day), ducks, turkeys, and rabbits.

Keith and helper Derek had the outdoor spot as the killers. “It’s not fun.”
Then there was the cold. Keith described it like this, “On a scale of one to ten, it sucks.” And the snow. This is one of the reasons we don’t process any further into the year. We like to be done with Thanksgiving turkeys, but it seems there’s always a few stragglers for one last day in Decemberrrrrr.

Dorothy: “Tell me again why we’re doing this.”
We’re happy to be done. None more so than Jim. But we’ll be back next spring!
